On 12-14 May 2022, the National Support Centre for Agriculture successfully took part in the 6th edition of FRESKON, the International Trade Show for Fruit and Vegetables in Thessaloniki, Greece. Poland’s informational stand of 16 sq. m, organised for the first time at this fair, was arranged thanks to the cooperation of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Athens, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the National Support Centre for Agriculture. Poland’s pavilion was located directly next to the stand of the Greek-Polish Chamber of Trade and Investment, which was also used by the Foreign Trade Office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in Athens.
Poland’s pavilion was noticed and eagerly visited by both politicians and representatives of the world of economy. The stand hosted, among other persons, Minister of Rural Development and Food Georgios Georgantas and Deputy Minister for Macedonia and Thrace Stavros Kalafatis. Artur Lompart, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Greece was also present at the fair – he took part in the International Apple Congress, and later talked to exhibitors and business representatives.
FRESKON is one of the largest events of such kind in the Balkans and Southeastern Europe. The main theme for this year’s edition was apples, which is why the main objective of Poland’s presence was promoting Polish apples on the Greek market and encouraging local fruit importers and distributors to buy them. Poland’s stand offered promotional folders and materials as well as fresh apples from the Grójec region, which the visitors could take a bite off on site.
Poland’s presence at FRESKON was much praised by organisers and acknowledged by both visitors and the local media. Polish apples are already known and appreciated on the Greek market, but there is still potential to grow export and increase its value.
