The 9th edition of the Food Africa Cairo was held between 3 and 5 December 2024 in Cairo. This fair continues to strengthen its position as the most important exhibition event of the food sector in Africa on a year-by-year basis. The National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR) has been present at Food Africa Cairo since 2015.
This-year national stand organised by the KOWR under the “Poland tastes good” slogan gathered 18 agri-food sector companies. The Polish entrepreneurs presented among others: milk powders and dairy products, cheeses, fish products, fresh apples and pears, juices, lyophilised fruits, vegetables and herbs, pickles, groats, herbs, beans, sweets, infant milk, dietary supplements for athletes, semi-products for the dairy, confectionery and bakery industry as well as convenience food products.
The official opening of fair held on 3 December this year was attended by the representatives of the Egyptian government, including: Hassan El-Khatib- Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade, Sherif Farouk – Minister of Supply and Internal Trade and Ihab Mohamed Amin – Chair of the Industrial Surveillance Office, who represented the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and the Minister of Industry and Transport.
The Egyptian visitors took in also the Polish stand, where they were welcomed by Henryk Smolarz, Director General of the National Support Centre for Agriculture, and Mirosław Maliszewski, Chairman of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the President of the Polish Fruit Growers Association. The discussions made a perfect opportunity to present the potential and capacity of the Polish food and strengthen the economic relations with the Egyptian party.
On 2 December this year, the companies exhibiting at the national stand could participate in the visits to the local retail chains (Kheir Zaman, Al-Othaim Market and Carrefour) organised by the KOWR in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Cairo.
During 3 days of fair, the stand presented culinary shows and samplings of the Polish products, familiarising the Food Africa Cairo visitors with the Polish cuisine and culinary tradition adapted to the local culture.
The event is a perfect opportunity to establish commercial relations with the counterparties from Egypt and other African states. It enables building the business visibility and recognition in 15 countries of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
The Food Africa Cairo fair demonstrates an upward trend in terms of the number of exhibitors and stands. Compared to the pre-COVID-19 pandemic editions, greater attention put to visual aspects of the stands is noticeable, which was well addressed by the Polish national pavilion.
